LIC AAO Exam Phases 2025
The LIC AAO examination will be held in three phases:
- Prelims Examination
- Mains Examination
- Interview Phase
It is similar to bank examinations like the PO exam.
Prelims Exam Pattern

- The marks of English section are not added in the final cut-off.
- Cut-off is released out of 70 marks only (Reasoning + Quant).
- LIC has a minimum sectional cut-off:
- General Category: 18 marks (each section)
- SC/ST or Other Categories: 16 marks
- For English: Minimum 10 marks required to qualify
(even though not added, failing in this results in disqualification)
Mains Exam Pattern
The LIC AAO Main Examination differs slightly from bank exams.
Sections Included:
- Reasoning
- Quantitative Aptitude
- General Awareness (GA)
- Insurance Awareness
Insurance Awareness is a separate section that checks professional knowledge.
Marking System:
- Each question is of 2 or 3 marks, depending on the section.
- Together, GA + Insurance Awareness = 120 marks
- Reasoning and Quant sections are 90 marks each
Sectional Cut-Off (50% Rule):

- Questions: 2 (Letter Writing + Essay Writing)

- Time Allotted: 30 minutes
